Phillies hire new director of baseball research and development

The Phillies announced that they have named Andy Galdi their new director of baseball research & development.

Galdi " will oversee all baseball analytics, including data visualization and reporting, statistical research, and data infrastructure," the team said.

The 30-year-old Galdi comes to the team from Google, where he worked as a quantitative analyst for YouTube. He holds a master's degree in statistics from Stanford University.

But Galdi is no newcomer to sports; he has worked for both the New York Mets and the NBA Commissioner's office.
