New Role For Gillick With Phillies

The Phillies Monday announced a slightly restructured front office, which includes both a new assistant general manager and a new role for former team president Pat Gillick.

In a press release, general manager Matt Klentak announced that Gillick will return to his prior role as senior advisor to the president & general manager. Gillick, general manager of the team's 2008 championship team, had been interim team president prior to the arrival of new president Andy MacPhail.

Meanwhile, Ned Rice has joined the front office as assistant general manager. Rice, like MacPhail and Klentak, formerly worked for the Baltimore Orioles.

In addition, Benny Looper is now senior advisor, international operations, while Scott Freedman is now director, baseball operations. And Lewis Pollis, formerly an intern, has joined the front office as analyst, baseball research and development .
