Philllies acquire Jose Bautista from the New York Mets

The Philadelphia Phillies have acquired a former all-star from a division rival in the New York Mets.

On Tuesday, the team announced they had claimed Jose Bautista, 37, off waivers on Monday and were able to work out a trade with the Mets. The Mets will receive a player to be named later or cash considerations in return.

Bautista, who spent a large part of his career with the Toronto Blue Jays, is a six-time MLB all-star with 342 career home runs.

The Phillies went into Tuesday 3.5 games behind the Atlanta Braves in the National League East. They were also 2.5 games out of an NL Wild Card spot.

Bautista has played right field, left field, third base, and first base for the Mets this season and has hit 11 home runs and 42 RBIs.
