Police: Drunken woman wearing only her underwear dies after five-story fall

Police say a drunken woman wearing only her underwear fell to her death from a Manhattan roof ledge Sunday morning.

27-year-old Elena Gladkikh was sitting with her legs dangling over the roof ledge of her apartment on West 37 th Street near Tenth Avenue at 8:30 a.m. when she fell five stories.

They said Gladkikh landed on the pavement in a narrow alley between two buildings.

"This is a bad time. My family is here and we're contacting her family overseas," Gladkikh's husband told the New York Post.

The Post reports that a porter at a neighboring building, James Proctor, saw the woman where she lay.

"Her whole body was swollen, there were bruises on her thigh, her stomach was bloated," Proctor said. "She had no clothing on, just a brassiere and panties."

Proctor told the Post that a firefighter asked to borrow his ladder, saying that theirs was jammed on their truck.

According to the Post, rescuers came out from the alley moments later with the woman's body on a stretcher and an EMT attempting to perform CPR.

Gladkikh, a beauty consultant for Mary Kay cosmetics, was taken to Bellevue Hospital where she later died.

Police say there were no immediate signs of foul play, and it was unclear if anyone was on the roof with her when she fell.
