Wintry weather possible to start the week, bitter temps linger

Winter hasn't even started yet, but freezing cold temperatures are on the way! We should warn you, this weekend may just have been the start of it.

The first blast of frigid air hit the area this weekend with highs in the upper 30s and lows as low as the mid-20s! Wind chills won't help matters either, and could have things feeling like the 20s.

On top of all of that, we are facing the return of the "Polar Vortex," late this week. However, the brunt of the vortex should miss us, and we could just see a piece of the vortex that is making its way across Canada next week.

The vortex will come closes to our area next Thursday, which Is why this weekend will likely just be the start of the dropping temperatures. Regardless, the vortex should make its way back to the north by next weekend.

As for snow this Sunday night into Monday morning a few flurries are possible in the north and western parts of the area. Accumulations of about an inch are possible on colder surfaces.

Here's a quick look at the next few days:

Sunday: High 40, Low 26 with clouds and a possible evening mix

Monday: High 51, Low 26 mix turning to rain

Tuesday: High 45, Low  39 with clouds and sun
