Remains found in NJ river identified as missing fugitive

FRENCHTOWN, N.J. (AP) -- Authorities say skeletal remains found on an island in the Delaware River in New Jersey have been identified as a Pennsylvania fugitive believed to have jumped into the Lehigh River upstream in January.

The Hunterdon County prosecutor's office said Sunday the remains found Aug. 27 in Frenchtown were those of 47-year-old Anthony Sisonick III. They were found by someone walking along a flood-susceptible island on the Delaware River.

The Palmer Township resident had been sought on forgery and identity theft charges. Relatives told police he was upset when he parked his car on the right shoulder of the 150-foot-tall bridge on Route 33 in Bethlehem Township.

Authorities believed he jumped into the icy Lehigh River, which meets the Delaware in Easton, but a search turned up no sign of him.
