Overflow crowd sounds off on racism in LGBTQ community

Racism in Philadelphia's LGBTQ community was the topic of a hearing that drew an overflow crowd before the Philadelphia Commission on Human Relations.

Tuesday night, hundreds of people packed a large conference room and two overflow rooms at Liberty Resources to share their own personal experiences with racial discrimination.

The issue was thrust into the spotlight in September after the owner of ICandy in the Gayborhood was caught on tape repeatedly using the "n" word.

Mayor Jim Kenney was there for the two hour-long meeting. He said listening is the most important thing we can do.

The PCHR said it'll review testimony from the meeting and then issue a report with recommendations on how the community can do better.

Mayor Kenney said the city will take a hard look at the report once it's complete.
