Arrest made, suspect ID'd in fatal hit-and-run that killed girl, 8

- Philadelphia police say an arrest has been made in the fatal hit-and-run that killed 8-year-old Jayanna Powell.

Police have arrested and charged 24-year-old Paul Woodlyn in connection with the incident after a car believed to be involved was located at a body shop in Chester County Wednesday.

Woodlyn has been charged with Homicide by Vehicle, Involuntary Manslaughter, and related offenses.

Police say on Friday, November 18 shortly after 3 p.m. 8-year-old Jayanna Powell was struck by a vehicle at 63rd Street and Lansdowne Avenue in Overbrook. She was taken to Children's Hospital of Pennsylvania where she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead.

Tuesday, the mayor's office announced a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction, the Fraternal Order of Police offered another $15,000 for an arrest, plus the family is putting up an additional $20,000. That’s a total of $45,000. No word if anyone received the reward.

This Saturday, Dec. 3, the family will be holding a walk. They’ll start meeting at 3:30pm at 63rd and Market streets. Then, at 4, they’ll walk to the site of the tragedy – 63rd and Lansdowne Avenue – and return.

In a few weeks, friends will be organizing a fundraising for the surviving children. That’ll be on Dec. 17. Look for it at 1pm at Tustin Playground. That’s at 60th and Columbia.

The family warns there is no GoFundMe page, so don’t let anybody take advantage of your generosity.
