Police searching for suspect after 2 attempted abductions overnight

Police in Delaware are looking for the man who tried to abduct women twice, Sunday night and overnight Monday.

First, at about 11:20pm Sunday, Newark police say a 28-year-old University of Delaware student was unloading several items from her vehicle in the 300 block of E. Main Street.

She left her building to make another trip to her car when a man entered the building, grabbed her from behind and tried to put a rag with an unknown chemical around her mouth.

Luckily, the victim fought him off, but he did get away on foot.

Then, on the same block at about 3:30am Monday, a 61-year-old woman was getting out of her vehicle when she was attacked from behind. The attacker grabbed her neck and mouth, and tried to push her into the vehicle.

Again, this victim fought him off, and he got away on foot.

Police say both victims declined medical attention.

The suspect is described as in his early 20s, about 5'6" to 5'7" tall, with a thin build.

Anyone with information is asked to call Newark police at 302-366-7100.
