K-9 Officer Indi released from vet after shooting

SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. (FOX 5 Atlanta) - Good news for the police K-9 officer shot in the line of duty this week while searching for the man who fatally shot a DeKalb County Police officer.

K-9 Officer Indi was released from released from the BluePearl Veterinary Partners on Saturday. Officials told FOX 5 News the bullet graze through Indi's head but did not leave any brain injury. The loyal K-9 officer did have to lose its eye as a result of the shooting.

Sandy Springs Police shut down a section of Abernathy Road in front of the veterinary office, forming a line to honor Indi for his serve. Police vehicles and officers line the road as Indi's handler paraded him through the corridor of blue.

Videos of the simple ceremony were shared with FOX 5 News. It shows the Belgian Malinois with the right side of his face shaved and stitches visible.

K-9 Officer Indi was shot Thursday night searching for the man who shot 24-year-old DeKalb County Police Officer Edgar Flores following a traffic stop along Candler Road. Indi was able to track 33-year-old Brandon Taylor, of Decatur, to his hiding place among a pile of tires behind one of the Candler Road businesses, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. The GBI said Taylor opened fire on the K-9 as officers closed in on him. Police returned fire, the GBI said, striking Taylor several times. He was later pronounced dead at Grady Memorial Hospital.

Indi was rushed in critical condition to the Sandy Springs vet. He has since made an amazing recovery.

Meanwhile, the body of Officer Flores was given an honor escort to the Whitfield Funeral Home in Baldwin Saturday morning ahead of his funeral.
