Arkansas police shoot, kill teen outside youth shelter

Arkansas State Police say a teenager shot by officers outside of a youth shelter has died.

Wednesday, State police said the 16-year-old died at a hospital overnight in Memphis, Tennessee.

The shooting happened Tuesday night shooting outside the East Arkansas Youth Services in Marion, about 10 miles northwest of Memphis.

The boy's name has not yet been released, pending notification of family members.

State police said Marion police officers responded to the shelter at 7:08 p.m. Tuesday and "moments later" reported that a teenager had been shot by police. Police didn't immediately provide details about what preceded the shooting.

Arkansas Department of Human Services spokeswoman Amy Webb says the shelter contracts with the state to provide services to children in foster care and children who have been involved in the juvenile justice system.
