Camden County gets 'F' in air quality report

Camden County is one of the places getting an 'F' when it comes to air quality, according to the American Lung Association.

"We do a lot of homeschooling outside. We play. We run track, gymnastics--we're always outside." Mom Jevante Burroughs has 4 small children, so news that the air her kids breathe is getting worse is alarming to her.

"Alarming. It's enough to make you debate whether to uproot and go but it's becoming a global issue as well," she said.

In its 20th annual state of the air report, the American Lung Association calls out Camden County as having the dirtiest air in New Jersey. Across the River Philadephia and Bucks both got 'F' grades so did Northampton.

The ALA says the growing trend towards emissions that erode the ozone is cause for most concern and people with underlying health issues are the most at risk.

Camden County says it's taking the report to heart. They are encouraging commuters to use public transit and working with state officials to cut factory smog that pours downwind.

"Ultimately to improve carbon footprint as well that's going to improve the air quality. So we'll be communicating that to our environmental affairs office and working with the state to look at ways to create other options for people to commute and travel together," Camden County spokesperson Dan Keashan said.
