College student run over, killed by campus emergency vehicle

STORRS, Conn. (AP-INSIDE EDITION) - A 19-year-old student at the University of Connecticut was run over and killed by a campus fire department SUV while at the UConn campus fire station, state police said.

Sunday's police report said Jeffny Pally was sitting against the bay door of the campus public safety complex, when the fire department got an emergency call soon after 1am.

The report said Pally was sitting on the ground with her back against the door when it opened, causing her to fall back onto the ground. That's when the right side of the emergency Chevy Tahoe driving out ran over her, killing her.

Then, the firefighter behind the wheel -- shift commander Dana Barrow Jr., 60 -- allegedly continued driving, and the sophomore was crushed.

Hartford FOX affiliate WTIC reported firefighters found Pally when they returned from the call.

Now, Barrow is on administrative leave while authorities investigate why he didn't stop.

Pally's mother described her daughter as a caring person who was always helping others.

Shiny Pally, on Inside Edition, said, "She always felt that she needs to do something to help people and actually, very recently, she was thinking of doing nursing."
