Gay bashing victims sue attackers

The victims of a gay bashing in Center City are now suing their attackers.

Zachary Hesse and Andy Haught filed a civil suit in Common Pleas Court. They want to ask a jury to award them more than $500,000 for assault, battery and negligent infliction of emotional distress.

The violence took place in September 2014, near 16th and Walnut. The attackers from Bucks County were in Center City to celebrate a birthday.

Hesse was punched in the face, and Haught suffered a broken jaw and cheekbones.

Philip Williams and Kevin Harrigan pleaded guilty. Williams is banned from Center City while on probation for five years. Harrigan's ban is for three years. They were also ordered to perform 200 hours of community service at an LGBT facility.

Kathryn Knott went to trial and was convicted of simple assault and three other misdemeanors. She's serving a five- to 10-month jail sentence in the Riverside Correctional Facility.
