Granola bars recalled over Listeria fears

Check your kitchen cabinet. Some granola bars are being recalled because they may have been contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

The product is Own Brands Sweet & Salty Almond Chewy Granola Bar. It was sold at Giant and other grocery stores around the country.

The granola bars come in 7.4oz. boxes and have a Best Buy date of Dec. 8, 2016.

Giant wrote on its website the bars were "processed by our supplier TreeHouse Private Brands on the same production line as sunflower seeds potentially contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes."

TreeHouse Foods said the recall is voluntary.

According to Treehouse, Listeria monocytogenes (L.mono) is an organism that "can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems."

They say no illnesses have been reported.

Giant said it pulled boxes with all date codes from its shelves "out of an abundance of caution."
