Coast Guard rescues injured ship captain 47 miles east of Cape May

A man was rescued by the Coast Guard Sunday after suffering a leg injury aboard a vessel 356 miles east of Cape May.

At 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, Fifth District watchstanders were told that the captain of the 274-meter long Almi Voyager motor transport had sustained a leg injury.

At 9:30 a.m. an Air Station Atlantic City MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew launched, they then met the Almi Voyager 47 miles east of Cape May at 10:00 a.m.

At 10:30 a.m. the crew lifted the captain and they then arrived at Atlantic City Trauma Center at 11:10 a.m.

The captain was reported in stable condition.
