DA addresses public on McCoy investigation

Philadelphia District Attorney Seth Williams addressed the public Friday afternoon regarding the investigation into a brawl which allegedly involved NFL running back LeSean McCoy, off-duty police officers, and a number of others.

Wednesday Williams said in a statement, " My team and I are continuing to investigate the incident that took place at the Recess Lounge. Like with all investigations, I do not comment about what I will or will not do until the evidence has been thoroughly reviewed."

Eyes around the country have been on the February 7 th incident, which sent two off-duty Philadelphia Police officers to the hospital with serious injuries.

Williams addressed the interest in the investigation Wednesday.

"I understand that people are interested in the outcome of our investigation, but we're not going to rush because some people are impatient- and to say that I am unwilling to prosecute difficult cases is a little misinformed," Williams explained.

The DA also addressed the length of the investigation.

"I can handle the challenge of difficult cases and I'm only going to operate on one timeline: The timeline ends when all the evidence has been collected has been reviewed and I have made the decision to charge or not charge a case," Williams said.

The two victims were inside, when police say an argument over the ownership of a bottle of champagne took place.

That argument allegedly led to pushing and shoving at which point police say all four suspects engaged in a physical altercation with the first victim. He was then punched and knocked to the ground.

According to officials, the off-duty was punched, kicked, and stomped about his body and head multiple times by all four suspects.

The second victim and security guards intervened and broke up the attack and then all parties were removed from the club.

The first victim took himself to the hospital where he was treated for a laceration to his right eye, broken nose, broken ribs, and a sprained thumb.

The second victim was admitted to the hospital where he received eight stitches over his left eye and is received treatment for a possible skull fracture.

The four suspects, including McCoy, 27, were identified through photographs by the victims and security guards.
