NEWARK, Del. (WTXF) - Doctors are having a rough time trying to tackle the flu this season, with two active strains causing some patients to contract the virus not once, but twice.
Doctors and nurses say the strains are mutating, making the famous flu shot less effective if you catch a strain not protected by the vaccine. But doctors say it’s still the best protection.
In an effort to protect patients in Delaware, Christiana Care Health System has implemented a temporary visitor ban on those under the age of 16.
The thought is that teens, pre-teens and younger kids are more likely to get flu and stay contagious longer than their adult counterparts.
The ban started back in December in the NICU, limiting visitors to parents, grandparents and guardians only.
