Drivers sought in 3 deadly weekend hit-and-runs

Police are searching for drivers they say are responsible for three deadly hit-and-runs that took place over the weekend in Philadelphia.

Just before 8:30 p.m. Friday, 50-year-old Brian Jones was crossing Torresdale Avenue in Tacony when he was struck by an eastbound car that failed to stop, and about 15 seconds later by a westbound car that also failed to stop. Jones was pronounced dead minutes later.

Police describe the eastbound car as a gray Toyota Camry and the westbound car as a dark colored Mitsubishi Gallant with tinted windows.

Shortly after midnight Saturday, officers responded to the 3500 block of North Randolph Street in North Philadelphia, where a 50-year-old man was found unresponsive. The victim was pronounced dead with injuries officials said were consistent with having been struck by a vehicle. No information on the striking vehicle or driver is available at this time.

Less than an hour later, 17-year-old John Gbaa was allegedly struck by a hit-and-run driver on the 7600 block of Roosevelt Boulevard in Rhawnhurst. Gbaa died shortly after 3:30 a.m. at Jefferson Torresdale Hospital.

Authorities describe the striking vehicle as a 2007 or 2008 Chevrolet Impala or Malibu with left side headlight damage. The vehicle also left the driver's side rear view mirror at the scene.

Anyone with information regarding the alleged hit-and-runs is urged to contact police. No arrests have been made at this time.
