Man arrested, charged following barricade in Juniata Park with Samurai sword

A man has been charged with aggravated assault and other crimes following a barricade situation in Juniata Park on Thursday.

The incident took place at 11:00 a.m. on the 4300 block of K Street.

According to police, officers responded to the scene following reports of a person with a weapon.

When they arrived, they saw a male standing in front of the residence holding a Samurai sword with a red sheath. The officers ordered the man to drop the sword.

He then unsheathed the sword and yelled, "Don't f*** with me," before aggressively walking towards the officers.

At that time, one of the officers, fearing for his safety, used his taser and struck the male in the chest area. The man fell to the ground, however he pulled the prongs from his chest, picked up the sword, and fled back into his home.

The officers secured the front and rear of the home and the scene was declared a barricade.

The male was barricaded inside of his residence by himself; his parents were able to flee the home.

SWAT was notified and came to the scene. The staging area was located at K and Bristol Streets.

After negotiations, the man exited the home and was taken into custody without incident.

The man has been identified as 40-year-old Ivan Encarnacion.

According to his parents, the man started an argument with them while inside the kitchen. During the argument, the man grabbed a red bat and stated that he was going to smash his car up.

He then went down to the basement, returning to the kitchen moments later armed with the sword and charged at his 81-year-old mother saying, "I am going to chop you to pieces."

His 78-year-old father reportedly got between his wife and his son. Then, Encarnacion grabbed his father by the neck and began to reach into his pocket, demanding money. His father gave him two five-dollar bills.

Before fleeing from the home through the front door, the man told his father that he was going to chop him to pieces too.

Encarnacion has been charged with 1 count of robbery and 3 counts of aggravated assault, possessing an instrument of crime, terroristic threats, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, and related offenses.
