Police: Man arrested following 2 NJ bank robberies

Police say a man has been arrested following a bank robbery at an Egg Harbor City bank earlier this week.

On Monday at 10:17 a.m. the Township of Hamilton Police and Egg Harbor City Police responded to the Ocean City Home Bank for a bank robbery that had just occurred.

Officers spoke with bank employees and viewed a surveillance video.

The video showed that the suspect produced a note to teller at the bank demanding money, and then ran with an undetermined amount of cash.

Photographs of the suspect were taken from the bank's surveillance video and distributed to the public through the media and social media outlets.

The suspect was identified as 47-year-old Joseph Whilden Jr. of Millville.

After an investigation, he was arrested Thursday morning in a garage in Millville without incident. He was charged with robbery and booked into the Atlantic County Justice Facility on $200,000 bail.

Whilden was also charged by New Jersey State Police with another bank robbery that happened on Wednesday, March 5, 2016 in Buena Vista Township. Additional bail for those charges was set at $100,000.

According to FOX 29's Steve Keeley, Whilden had served nearly six years of an eight year sentence he received in 2010 for a bank robbery after an arrest in Atlantic City.

He was paroled on February 25.
