#JuniorReporters: Fur Alert App

Pennsylvania (WTXF) A Pennsylvania man created an app that helps people find their missing dogs.

The app, called Fur Alert, was created by Cory Donovan after he lost his beloved dogs Raven and Lulu one night.

One Tuesday night back in 2012, after accidentally leaving his gate open, Donovan discovered that his dogs were missing. Not knowing what to do next, Donovan went running after his dogs only to discover that he did not know where to go.

Luckily, Raven and Lulu were both returned to him by the following day, but the incident gave him and his wife an idea that would later turn into an app called Fur Alert.

Fur Alert has been dubbed the Amber Alert for dogs. The app allows people to make a profile with a picture of their pet. Then, if the animal goes missing the owner can send out an alert to people in their community that has a picture of the dog and the location where the canine went missing. If someone who received the alert sees the dog, then they can use to app to get in touch with the owner by phone, text or email.

According to Donovan's wife Julie, an app like this is especially important because the longer a dog is missing the higher the chances of injury.
