NJ man charged with death of 4-month-old son

A Hamilton Township man has been charged in connection with the death of his 4 month-old son.

Jose Rojas, 35, has been charged with first degree Aggravated Manslaughter, second degree Aggravated Assault and second degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child for the death of his infant son.

On January 29, police responded to the 6000 block of Hoover Drive in Mays Landing for a report of an unresponsive child. Upon their arrival, officers discovered a 4-month-old boy with no pulse.

The victim was transported to AtlantiCare Mainland Division before transferring to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia due to the severity of his injuries.

After almost a week in the hospital, the child succumbed to his injuries on Sunday, February 4.

Investigators say Rojas had been home alone with his three young children the night his son was injured. Rojas told police that the child rolled off the bed, which doctors deemed inconsistent with the nature of the boy's injuries.

Doctors say the child suffered hemorrhages "too numerous to count" in both eyes. The pattern of hemorrhages was consistent with severe trauma, specifically abusive head trauma, doctors said.
