Police locate vehicle believed to be involved in hit-and-run that injured girl

Authorities are investigating after a 9-year-old girl was critically injured in a hit-and-run while riding her bike in Olney on Monday.

For the sisters and brothers of 9-year-old Fatimah Hunter it's been a rough 24 hours waiting for word on their sister's condition after she was struck Monday night by a hit-and-run driver right near her home.

"It's a 9-year-old girl just riding her bike. It don't make no sense," Chasity Stanley, Fatimah's sister, told FOX 29 Tuesday night."How could somebody live with just hitting a little girl like that? He could have took her life.I'd rather live with myself in jail before I live on the run knowing that I hit the little girl and I can't do nothing about it."

Police released surveillance video of Fatimah riding her bike in the 200 block of Lindley Avenue when she was hit by a Cadillac SUV and thrown from her bike. The video shows the driver just kept on going as the bicycle could be seen falling off the front of the SUV a block away.

"The vehicle struck her and never stopped--did not stop to identify himself--did not stop to render aid to the 9-year-old female," Accident Investigation District Captain Mark Overwise said.

"She don't have no brain injuries. She's breathing well that's all I'm worried about," Chasity said.

Fatimah's older sister said her sister suffered a broken femur and injuries to her ankles and her lungs. Her mother and family members were by her side at Children's Hospital, praying for her recovery.

"She's an active little girl. She always plays football. She got on the football team before her brother, actually. So I think she should pull through," Stanley explained.

On Tuesday evening, police towed a gold, Cadillac SRX crossover to the police impound garage. It was found parked on the 5100 block of Hutchinson Street near the accident scene. The SUV had damage to the front end on the passenger side.

Police and family members say that while Fatimah is in critical condition. She is expected to survive. Police urged the driver to turn himself or herself in. Police are trying to determine how fast the driver was going at the time of the accident. Pieces of the SUV were recovered at the crime scene.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is urged to contact police.
