Teen shot and killed blocks from Camden high school

- Police are investigating after a teenage boy was shot and killed blocks from his Camden high school on Tuesday.

It happened just after 3:30 p.m. on the 1500 block of Princess Avenue in Camden's Parkside neighborhood.

When officers arrived, they found a 15-year-old boy suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to Cooper University Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries a short time later.

Police have yet to identify the victim, who was a student at nearby Camden High School.

The Camden City School District released a statement Wednesday in the wake of the fatal shooting.

“Our District is in shock and mourning following the tragic passing of one of our beloved students," the school wrote, calling the shooting an "unthinkable tragedy."

“Our District is in shock and mourning following the tragic passing of one of our beloved students. Grief counseling is available to students at Camden High and other schools where students have been impacted by his passing, and the violence that led to it. We remain steadfast in our duty of care to our students, and to the young man’s family, and will provide as much comfort and support as we can. Please respect our students’ privacy as they process this unthinkable tragedy. Please also keep our City and its young people in your thoughts and prayers.”

This is an ongoing investigation. No arrests have been made at this time.
