Video: Camden County officers pull 4 men from burning cars on I-676

Four Camden County police officers are being recognized for their heroics as video of their efforts to rescue motorists from two burning cars has been released.

Officers Vaughn Edwards, Joseph Mair, Brian McCline, and Vincent Russomanno jumped into action to pull two people from a burning car back on April 7.

Officer Mair was on patrol near 7th and Sycamore Streets around 2:30 a.m. when he saw flames coming from I-676 nearby.

Officer Mair radioed information about the crash to other officers, and then was the first officer to the scene. Two vehicles were stopped side by side after they had collided and were on fire. Both vehicles were occupied by two men.

Officers Edwards, McCline, and Russomanno responded to the scene alongside several civilians and Officer Franklin Flash of the Delaware River Port Authority Police Department.

Together, the group worked to free all four victims from the vehicles and smashed the windows and windshield of one of the cars, pulling the victims our before it became fully engulfed in flames.

Two men inside that vehicle suffered extensive burns and were rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Officers forced open the door of the other vehicle, freeing the other two victims from the burning SUV.

All four victims survived the incidents, and no other injuries were reported.

"The quick actions taken by Officers Edwards, Mair, McCline and Russomanno ensured that all four victims survived this crash," said Lt. John Martinez.

Officers Edwards, Mair, McCline and Russomanno were honored as the Camden County Police Department Officers of the Week.
