Warning of Fake L&I Inspector in Philadelphia

The city's police and Licenses & Inspections department said Friday that a man impersonating a Licenses & Inspections agent has been telling people that the city is going to demolish their property.

The latest scam to hit our city is spreading. Police have gotten several reports of a man pretending to be an inspector from licenses and inspections trying to get people to pay imaginary violations on the spot and L&I tells me it's not the first time.

Police say the The 5-7 inch man in his mid 50's was targeting several areas in North Philadelphia leading to numerous calls. He can be convincing but L&I told me if you're careful he's easy to identity as a fraud (SOT steps to protect yourself)

The areas he targeted are mostly stable blocks, many with senior citizens who look out for each other and they told me they're not surprised it didn't work there (SOT we don't let people in our houses and we look out for each other)l

The man or men are still out there and the scam continues so if you have any questions about someone approaching you, don't let anyone in your house, don't give anyone money and of course call the police.

Those approached by the man are asked to call 215-686-2400 or 911.
