Youth football coach shot, killed after practice in Cumberland County; suspect sought

MILLVILLE, N.J. (WTXF) - Police are searching for the person they say is responsible for fatally shooting a youth football coach after practice in Cumberland County Thursday evening.

Around 8:15 p.m., members of the Millville Midget League Football Team were dispersing from the field behind Lakeside Middle School when 37-year-old Joseph Jones was shot and killed.

Investigators believe the shooting was a targeted attack.

Witnesses say a masked suspect fled the scene in a maroon colored sedan. On Saturday, prosecutors released a photo of the car believed to have been involved in the incident.

While fleeing the scene, the suspect allegedly fired multiple rounds at an officer on Route 55 in Vineland, but no one was hit and the officer did not return fire.
