Owner of clinics raided behind bars for alleged threats

A doctor whose clinics were raided Monday by the feds is behind bars for alleged threats made weeks ago. Federal agents rolled into several Advanced Urgent Care Clinics across Pennsylvania Monday as part of an investigation of opioids and pill mills. While that investigation is underway FOX 29 Investigates has learned the clinics owner is jailed for allegedly threatening to shoot federal marshals.

FOX 29's Jeff Cole reports this is not the first time FOX 29 has heard this doctor's name.

It's a late October afternoon in 2013 and we're inside the offices of Advanced Urgent Care in Montgomeryville, Pa. Working on a tip, we're trying to find out if Doctor Mehdi Nikpavar-Fard--known as Doctor Nick--will write us a script for pain pills on our first visit knowing little about his patient.

After asking our FOX 29 worker to rate his pain, touching his back and lifting his legs, Dr. Nick wrote a script for 180 potentially addictive pain pills. We paid 79 bucks for the 10 minute visit and left. On Monday, Dr. Nick's name resurfaced.

"I've seen a lot of patients come in who claim to be in pain, pay a couple of hundred bucks, get scripts for oxycodone and Percocet," patient Jason Diderey told FOX 29. "I've seen it happen while in the waiting room and talked to patients. I've seen it happen while in the waiting room and talked to patients."

We met this patient outside a Willow Grove Advanced Urgent Care.

Inside, according to law enforcement sources, federal agents part of a task force battling opioid abuse and pill mills were searching this and several other clinics in Pa. owned by Dr. Nick.

While not charged in the raids, he faces big trouble in another case. He's in a city federal lock-up without bail for allegedly threatening to kill federal marshals who showed up at one of his clinics last month to serve civil warrants. According to court documents, marshals recorded him by cell phone making threats.

Dr. Nick's lawyer tells FOX 29 the doctor acted like a hot head in September when provoked by the marshals. He confirmed Dr. Nick's clinics were raided Monday. According to records, Dr. Nick's medical license has been suspended due to the alleged threats.

Tonight, his Willow Grove and Montgomeryville, City Line, Philadelphia clinics are closed as sources say law enforcement push-on with their opioid investigation.
