Parents accused of attacking principal and vice principal at school 'Fun Day'

- Parents are accused of attacking the principal and vice principal at an elementary school in Northeast Philadelphia at 'Fun Day.'

Parents at the Robert Pollock Elementary School were still trying to come to grips with news that two parents allegedly attacked the vice principal and principal in front of their children.

"It's horrible. It's a disgrace. iI was so nervous for my kids, ya know. let me call school up and what happened," parent Karen Grossman said.

It was supposed to be 'Fun Day' for students at Pollock when police say a mom showed up in the school yard area and tried to remove her child. She was repeatedly told to go to the main office, present ID and sign the child out. Police say she refused.

"At that time, she started to assault the vice principal. The principal saw this, he comes to the vice principal's aid, then the significant other of the female assaulted the principal," Northeast Detectives Lt. Dennis Rosenbaum said.

Parents, police and school officials say the security procedure is well-known and used to protect children from being removed from school without authorization.

"They're good procedures because you don't want your kid going home with a stranger," Grossman added.

"You got a parent here that just doesn't want to follow the rules. I don't know what kind of example that is for kids that are there."

The principal and vice principal suffered minor injuries. The parents took off with the child. Police are investigating and expect to file criminal charges.

"Those charges will be against the parents for aggravated assault, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and whatever else the district attorney decides," Lt. Rosenbaum said.

Police are searching for the parents at this hour. The school officials are expected to be OK.  The school district says their main goal with these procedures is to protect children.
