Person reportedly dressed as a clown disrupts school at J.H.Brown Elementary; police investigate

The School District of Philadelphia informs parents of an incident on the property of Joseph H. Brown Elementary School involving a clown.

A letter was sent to all parents and guardians of children attending J.H. Brown Thursday informing them a person was seen on school grounds dressed as a clown. According to the letter, the person was seen gesturing to students in the building.

School officials contacted Philadelphia police. Police responded and investigated the school grounds.

Police found no threat to students or staff and school resumed normal activity by noon Thursday.

Dear Parent/Guardian:

This letter is to inform you of an incident that occurred at J.H. Brown on Thursday, December 13, 2018 at 10:45am, a person dressed as a clown was seen outside the school gesturing to some of our students. The students immediately told school staff.
We immediately reported the threat to the Philadelphia Police Department and School District of Philadelphia Police.
Officers arrived on scene to investigate, and exercised all precautions to ensure the safety of all children and staff during the incident.
At 11:45am, it was determined that there was no further threat to students and staff, and our school resumed as normal.
