19-year-old woman dies following hit-and-run in Lower Southampton

Police say a 19-year-old woman has died following a hit-and-run in Lower Southampton.

It happened shortly after 8 p.m. Monday at Street Road and Philmont Avenue.

The two victims were taken to the hospital where the 19-year-old woman who just graduated from Bensalem High School later died.

"A good kid, she studied hard, she had her whole life ahead of her," close family friend Fred Clayton said.

Police say she was trying to cross the street with a friend when they were both struck.

"We interviewed him last night. He's distraught. Almost described as being in shock. We'll give him a day or two before we try to talk to him again," Lower Southampton Township Police Chief John Krimmel said.

According to police, they are looking for a 1992 to 1997 Ford F-250 pick-up truck. The vehicle may have or had a ladder rack on it. The passenger mirror was broken off and the front passenger headlight sustained heavy damage causing it to be inoperable.

The driver is described as an African American man in his thirties who may have been making a turn onto Trevose Road.

"He pulled over, he assisted the male victim in moving the female victim to the side of the road, and then he left," Chief John Krimmel said.

Police have found some surveillance video of the truck but are searching for more. Meanwhile, those in her neighborhood are devastated.

"Good news is she loved Jesus and so she's with him now," Clayton said.

This investigation is ongoing.
