Police: Man arrested after bringing gun and drugs into Darby school

- Darby Borough police say they have arrested a man who brought a gun and drugs into Park Lane Elementary School.

According to police, 21-year-old Nazher Sabree brought a loaded .40 caliber handgun and drugs into the school Friday. Police have concerns that someone was allowed to enter the school while school was in session.

"I personally hold that principal accountable for what happened today," Darby Borough Police Chief Robert Smythe said.

Chief Smythe is calling out Park Lane Elementary School Principal Dr. Dawnee Watson-Bouie for never pushing the school’s emergency county-wide police response button and instead allowing the man who is a former student with an extensive criminal history past two sets of locked doors. Police say he was granted full access to school grounds three hours after school security officers first noticed him wandering the streets shirtless and acting strange.

Chief Smythe says after Sabree walked out of the school, officials called police and placed the school on lockdown. Fortunately, the man was taken into custody without incident and his stolen loaded gun was seized by police.

FOX 29 reached out to the school district but has not heard back.
