Police: Robbers thwarted after breaking into business with a sledge hammer

Police say that two men have been arrested after they allegedly used a sledge hammer to break through a concrete wall and rob a furniture store in New Castle, Delaware on Tuesday.

Authorities responded to a tripped alarm call at Aaron's Furniture on East Basin Road shortly before midnight. When troopers arrived on scene, they found William Ramos, 55, standing next to a hole that had been created with a sledge hammer on the business's exterior concrete wall. Police apprehended Ramos without incident.

Upon further inspection of the store, a K-9 unit found David Ramos, 53, hiding in the drop ceiling. Police ordered Ramos to surrender and took him into custody without incident.

Both suspects were charged with multiple crimes including third degree burglary, attempted theft of greater than $1500, and second degree conspiracy.

Both men were unable to meet an $11,500 bail and were sent to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution.
