Police arrest man accused of leading cops on chase

Police say they have arrested a man accused of leading police on a 3-county chase on Tuesday.

According to police, an officer with the Robeson Twp. Police Department attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a Nissan Sedan. Police say that's when John Michael Soto sped off as the officer exited his vehicle.

A pursuit ensued and spanned multiple municipalities across Berks, Chester and Montgomery Counties, according to authorities. Police say at one point, during the pursuit, the Robeson Twp. police officer who initiated the pursuit, attempted to box-in the Nissan, when the man pulled into a driveway in Union Twp. Police say Soto then rammed his vehicle into the Robeson Twp. police vehicle. The pursuit ended when the suspect drove into a lawn in Colebrookdale Twp., according to police.

Investigators say Soto fled on foot undetected and remains at large. According to police, Soto's 4-year-old daughter and 2-year-old son, along with their mother, were all passengers in the vehicle during the pursuit.

An arrest warrant was issued for Soto on Wednesday. According to police, Soto was taken into custody Wednesday night around 9:30 p.m. without incident by PSP at a residence in Union Twp., Berks County.

Police say he is charged with aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of children, recklessly endangering another person, fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, driving suspended and numerous other traffic offenses.
