Transgender boy, parents tell Good Day about failed school compromise

A local student is not allowed to attend a South Jersey Catholic school after enrolling as a girl and coming back as a boy.

Mason Catrambone, 14, said Camden Catholic revoked his admission after finding out he's transgender.

His family told Good Day Philadelphia on Wednesday morning they had a series of meetings with the school and were willing to make compromises over separate bathrooms, but the deal-breaker was the school insisting Mason wear a girl's uniform.

A petition supporting Mason generated more than 1500 signatures in days.

The Camden Diocese said in a statement it supports Camden Catholic and "Unfortunately, the school was unable to both accommodate the student's requests and remain faithful to its religious principles."
