Woman killed, alleged gunman in critical condition after attempted murder-suicide

A woman has died and a man is in critical condition after an attempted murder-suicide in West Philadelphia.

Heartbroken friends left tributes outside the Studio 7 Lounge and Restaurant on the corner of 60th and Spruce in Southwest Philadelphia in memory of 29-year-old Gwen Anderson.

"She was just a good spirited person. She always had a smile on her face. She was always friendly and welcoming and I'm gonna miss her," friend John Nelson said.

Nelson dropped off a stuffed teddy bear and balloons.

The young mother was working her job as a bartender around 10:15 p.m. Wednesday night when police say a 52-year-old man--who she knew from the bar and had refused his advances--shot her repeatedly in the head and chest.

"At some point, they were conversing. He pulls out a gun and fires at least 9 shots--hitting her at least 7 times," Southwest Detectives Lt. John Walker said.

Police say the gunman then ran out of the bar and shot himself in the head collapsing on the sidewalk where investigators found the gun next to him.

No one from Studio 7 wanted to comment on the deadly shooting.
