Wentz undergoes surgery to repair torn ACL

PHILADELPHIA (WTXF) - Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz underwent surgery to repair a torn ligament in his knee on Wednesday.

Wentz left Sunday's game against the Rams early with a knee injury after throwing his fourth touchdown of the day.

Head Coach Doug Pederson confirmed the team's worst fears Monday morning when he announced Wentz had suffered a torn ACL during the game.

ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports the surgery was performed Wednesday morning by Dr. James Bradley, an orthopedic knee surgeon based in Pittsburgh.

Further details about the surgery have not been made available.

Wentz's MVP caliber season ended with three regular-season games remaining on the schedule, and a chance for backup quarterback Nick Foles and the rest of the team to fight for home field advantage in the playoffs.

Sunday's win over the Rams secured and NFC East title for the Eagles.

As for Wentz, the focus now turns to recovery as many question whether or not the quarterback will be fully healed in time to kick off the 2018 season.
