Windy, rainy weather continuing Monday night into Tuesday

(WTXF) - The Philadelphia region has been dealing with a nor'easter. Heavy winds and rain hammered the area. Police say winds ripped a sign from a wall in Hunting Park and killed a 59-year-old man Monday afternoon.

Temperatures started in the 40s and are staying there, so this is a rain event. The only exception will be possible snow in the Poconos, where it's expected to get colder. A winter weather advisory is in effect for Carbon and Monroe counties from 11am Monday to 11am Tuesday.

In South Jersey, high winds brought down wires and caused electric poles to snap along Route 70 in Cherry Hill. Authorities shut down the roadway in both directions. Work crews brought in giant generators to restore power. Drivers were detoured for hours

No word on when Route 70 will reopen. Power crews were working into the night to fix at least three poles that snapped or were tilted over by the winds.

On the water, there is a gale warning for Delaware Bay and a coastal flood warning for coastal counties in both New Jersey and Delaware. The wind keeps pounding, and the concern is ocean and back bay flooding. More street flooding is also possible.

Rough weather is keeping the Cape May-Lewes ferry at its dock. Officials canceled all Monday trips because of high winds and rough seas. The boats ply the waters between Cape May in New Jersey and Lewes, Delaware.

Route 1, both northbound and southbound, between Dewey Beach and Bethany Beach is closed due to flooding.

Trees have been knocked down, and there are localized power outages and the possibility of significant beach erosion.

Later Monday, the storm will continue to the northeast. Conditions will calm overnight.
