Federal workers impacted by government shutdown turn to GoFundMe

PHILADELPHIA (WTXF) - The third week of the government shutdown is wrapping up and as the fourth week is set to begin on Monday, federal workers are turning to GoFundMe in order to pay their bills and support their lives.

Friday marked the 21st day of the shutdown and about 800,000 federal employees went without a paycheck on payday.

Now, unable to pay bills and make ends meet, crowdfunding has become a solution to the ongoing, unabating shutdown.

According to Business Insider, over 1,500 of the workers affected by the shutdown have started using GoFundMe to seek donations to sustain themselves and their families.

The titles of the GoFundMe campaigns all share similar themes -- "Government shutdown help," "A family in need," Government shutdown hurting my family," and more similarly named speak to the plight of Americans not receiving paychecks.

Most are asking for small sums as low as $500 while some ask for higher, it remains to be seen that workers are facing the consequence of the U.S. government's inability to reach an agreement on a budget for President Trump's border wall.
