Teen girl charged with murder after grandmother fatally stabbed in West Philadelphia: police

Philadelphia police say a domestic dispute between a woman and her teen granddaughter took a deadly turn early Wednesday morning.

The 15-year-old suspect called 911 from a home on Cobbs Creek Parkway between Spruce and Delancey just after 2 a.m.

After gaining entry through a front window, officers found the 67-year-old woman stabbed upstairs.

The woman, who is said to be the girl's legal guardian, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials identified the woman as Elsa Alberra Bein.

Police say the 15-year-old has been charged with murder in her grandmother's stabbing death.

A knife was also recovered from the scene.

A neighbor and friend of Bein says she keeps thinking about the last conversation they had last week.

"She was fearful that she was going to be killed, she expressed that to me," says Bonnie Wilson. "She said she was afraid she was going to kill her."

Upon hearing the tragic news, Wilson added, "I just lost it. She had asked me if I could speak with her and maybe I could talk some sense into her, and I agreed to do that, but it never happened, it never happened."

Other neighbors of Bein, including Oris Thomas, expressed shock and sadness. "She did everything for her. She was a real nice person. Anything she could do to help you."

Neighbors say Elsa, as she was known in the neighborhood, lived on the block for more than a decade and was loved by her community. She started caring for her granddaughter over the past few years.

"Both lives are destroyed, neighbor Marlon Mobley stated. "She has to deal with the hand that she’s dealt."

Wilson says Elsa was actively trying to get help for her granddaughter and she wishes it came sooner. "She really, really tried to take care of her. She did, she took care of her granddaughter. It can’t be ignored, like I feel like she was ignored trying to get her some help and it can’t be - it was senseless. It was senseless."
