Amazon drone drops package in pool

Texas woman watches as Amazon delivery drone drops her package in her backyard swimming pool.

A Texas woman watched in astonishment as an Amazon drone dropped her package into her backyard swimming pool.

What we know:

Lindsey Austen of Richmond, Texas, said she received an Alert that her package was out for delivery via drone delivery in Amazon’s Prime Air program.

What they're saying:

After hearing the drone’s loud buzzing, she went outside and saw the drone open its hatch and drop the package down in the pool.

"When it went into the pool, I was shocked," she said. "I don’t think I’ll be wanting any more drone deliveries."

Amazon expanding drone deliveries

Amazon recently announced they’re expanding their drone delivery service to nearly 500 cities nationwide.

By the numbers:

The drone deliveries will be free for Amazon Prime members, while non-members will pay $4.99. Orders will also have to have a $50 minimum, otherwise a $2.99 fee will be added for smaller orders.

Dig deeper:

The drones will primarily fly in suburban areas, away from skyscrapers and major airports. Their payloads will also max out at a five pound limit for each drone. This is in addition to noise ordinances and other additional regulatory hurdles in every local community where Amazon operates.
