PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (WTXF) - On Saturday afternoon, large crowds took to Thomas Paine Plaza in Philadelphia as part of the March to End Rape Culture.
The march -- intended to raise awareness about rape culture while supporting survivors -- kicked off with speakers from several local organizations dedicated to the cause. Among them were Philly's iteration of Take Back the Night, PAVE (Promoting Awareness Victim Empowerment) Philly, Project Safe and Black & Brown Workers Collective.
The annual event aims to provide a platform for people to learn about the issues surrounding rape culture, a concept used to describe an environment in which sexual assault and abuse are normalized.
The organizers behind the march also connect survivors and their advocates to a variety of local activists and resource groups.
