WILMINGTON, DEL. (WTXF) Four people were found dead inside an apartment in Wilmington after a man asks for a welfare check because he hadn't heard from his brother in several days.
It happened at the Hidden Valley Apartments on Homestead Road Friday afternoon.
Investigators say three people and a dog were found dead in one apartment and a fourth person was found dead in another unit.
Carl Dunfee, 60, Veronica Mousely, 58, and Andrew Spanakos, 72, have been identified as the victims who were in the same apartment. 56-year-old Nancy Uniacke was found dead in a separate apartment.
Investigators say the cause appears to be environmental and they're looking at carbon monoxide after reports from EMS and firefighters reported high levels of it.
Edward Dunfee says he's the man who stopped by for help checking on his brother, Carl Dunfee.
He says Carl, two roommates and their dog "Ladybug" were found dead.
"I came here three times at 10, 11:30 and 1:00 then I came to the office to give a courtesy call. Then I got a call from the police department that this is what happened," Edward Dunfee explained.
Eight people were taken to the hospital, including three children. All but one have since been released.
Investigators say they do not suspect foul play and suicide does not appear to be the cause at this time, but the investigation is ongoing.
