DOVER, Del. (AP) -- Public health officials have confirmed Delaware's second human case of West Nile Virus this year.
Officials said Wednesday that the case involves a 68-year-old New Castle County man who was initially hospitalized in July due to illness. He remains hospitalized because of underlying health conditions that are not related to the virus.
Earlier this month, officials announced that a 60-year-old Sussex County man was the first person in Delaware to contract West Nile Virus this year.
Last year, there was one confirmed case involving a Kent County woman.
West Nile Virus is carried by mosquitoes and can lead to serious illness and even death.
Officials advise residents to take steps to avoid mosquito bites, including using bug repellent and to get rid of any standing water on their properties.
