Hundreds gather to honor local soldier killed in accident
MEDFORD LAKES, N.J. (FOX 29) - An emotion-packed tribute to an American hero in Burlington County Sunday.
Hundreds of friends, family, military and civilians gathered at Beach One Medford Lakes to pay tribute to a fallen soldier.
Specialist Nicholas DiMona III, just 20-years-old, killed in a military live-fire training exercise at a base in Alaska.
The Army paratrooper was in his second year of service.
"Nick was high speed proficient in his skills," said best friend Alex Ferry.
Driven, just like his father Nick DiMona II, according to Ferry. The Army chief Warrant Officer also died in a military training exercise when his helicopter crashed 15 years ago.
His son, ironically, followed his footsteps.
"He did it and I know his dad was always proud of him," Ferry added.
Jessica Woolmont fought to hold back tears over her special bond with Nick.
"Thank you Nick DiMona for being there. Thank you for being the caring friend, a memory I'll carry from now on," Woolmont said.
A final prayer by candlelight wrapping a solemn night.
