Jennifer Runyon, actress known for 'Ghostbusters' and 'Charles in Charge,' dies

Actress Jennifer Runyon, who starred in the sitcom "Charles in Charge" and had roles in "Ghostbusters" and other films, has died. 

She was 65 years old.

Runyon’s spokesperson said she died Friday after a six-month battle with cancer, according to Fox News Digital

"This past Friday night our beloved Jennifer passed away, it was a long and arduous journey that ended with her surrounded by her family," her family shared in a statement. "She will always be remembered for her love of life and her devotion to her family and friends."

They also noted that "she's looking down on all of us with her beautiful smile. Rest in peace our Jenn."

Friend and fellow actress Erin Murphy, who starred in the TV classic "Bewitched," shared a tribute to Runyon on social media. 

"Some people you just know you’ll be friends with before you even meet," Murphy wrote. "She was a special lady. I’ll miss you Jenn."

The backstory:

According to Variety, Runyon’s first movie was in the 1980 slasher film "To All a Good Night." In 1984, she had supporting roles in "Up the Creek" and "Ghostbusters" before going on to play Gwendolyn Pierce on the sitcom "Charles in Charge" the same year. 

She also had roles in "A Very Brady Christmas," "The In Crowd," "Quantum Leap" and "18 Again!", along with guest appearances on "Murder, She Wrote," "A Man Called Sarge" and "Beverly Hills, 90210."

She married Todd Corman, a college basketball coach who also worked in TV between seasons, in 1991. The couple have two children, Variety reports. Runyon said in 2014 that she had semi-retired from acting and was working as a teacher.
