Pedestrian dies after Jeep crashes into him in North Philadelphia

A 36-year-old pedestrian died after he was struck by a Jeep in North Philadelphia early Saturday morning, police said.

The crash happened around 1:50 a.m. at 20th Street and Belfield Avenue.

Police said a 41-year-old man was driving a white 2018 Jeep Cherokee south on 20th Street and tried to go around a stopped vehicle when the pedestrian stepped into the roadway.

The Jeep struck the pedestrian, leaving him critically injured, police said.

Victim taken to hospital

Philadelphia Fire Department medics took the man to Einstein Medical Center Philadelphia, where he was pronounced dead around 2:20 a.m.

The Crash Investigation Division is investigating.
