PHILADELPHIA - A 19-year-old woman is in critical condition after being shot in the chest early morning near 56th and Haverford Avenue, according to police.
Investigators say the woman was walking with three friends when a man fired at them following an argument.
What we know:
Police say the shooting happened just after 2:30 a.m. when a verbal altercation began between the victim and several of her friends and a man across the street.
The man fired two to four shots as the group walked away, striking the 19-year-old woman once in the chest, according to witnesses.
Officers rushed the victim to Presbyterian Hospital for emergency surgery. Her three friends stayed at the scene and are cooperating with detectives.
Detectives recovered two spent shell casings shortly after the shooting and are now reviewing footage from nearby city and private surveillance cameras.
The suspect is described as a man in his 20s, dressed in all-dark clothing and carrying a backpack with a teeth design.
Police have not yet identified the shooter or made any arrests.
