Young man loses father, home in Cherry Hill fire — neighbors step up

A Cherry Hill community is coming together to support 27-year-old Hazem Abdalla after a house fire killed his father and destroyed everything he owned. Abdalla says he came home the night of January 31 to find their home on the 500 block of Main Street engulfed in flames. He says he tried to get inside but couldn’t reach his father, who was in his late 60s and was also ill. The owners of Cheesesteaks in Merchantville, where Abdalla works, helped kick off a GoFundMe with a $4,000 donation and are urging others to help with funeral expenses and rebuilding his life. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
